1.3.1 Ambiguous Letters
What are ambiguous looking letters?
Two or more independent vowels (simple or complex) that look ambiguously similar due to shared constituents shapes are ambiguous looking letters.
1. अ vs आ
They look the same except for the extra vertical line.
अ /a/ + । = आ /aa/
2. इ vs ई
They look the same except for the tiny curve on top facing right.
इ /i/ + c = ई /ii/
3. उ vs ऊ
They look the same except for the downward facing curve.
उ /u/ + っ = ऊ /uu/
4. ओ vs औ
They look the same except for the extra flags on top. ओ has one and औ has two.
ओ/o/ + े = औ /au/
5. ए vs ऐ
They look the same except for the extra flag on top.
ए /e/ + े = ऐ /ai/
6. अ vs आ vs ओ vs औ
They all have 3, ー, & । as common shapes.
अ /a/ + । = आ /aa/
अ /a/ + ो = ओ /o/
अ /a/ + ौ = औ /au/
आ /aa/ + े = ओ /o/
आ /aa/ + ै = औ /au/ ओ/o/ + े = औ /au/
