The written representation of vowels—both letters & symbols—may look similar sometimes. This may force students mistake one for another. In this section, we will look into those ambiguities.

Shapes used in written representation of vowels

       For \’अ  /a/\’

  1. The number three, \’3\’
  2. The connecting horizontal line, \’—\’
  3. The vertical line, \’I\’

Let\’s understand through an example:

 1. अ/a/ vs. आ /aa/

=> अ/a/ + । = आ /aa/
These two vowels shapes as independent syllables may appear ambiguous to novice learners. It is suggested that they look into constituents shapes to identify the similarities and
difference among two written representation of vowels.
